Best KitchenAid Diamond Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals & Sales 2020:

True to its positioning, KitchenAid offers a blender with a worked design, available in cream, red, black or gray. Are the performances of the Diamond 5KSB1585 up to its attractive appearance? It turns out that yes …

Presentation

Launched at € 199, the KitchenAid Diamond 5KSB1585 is a blender with a power of 615 watts with the Intelli-Speed system: it allows the blade rotation speed to be increased very gradually. Much more classic in design than the Artisan 5KSB5080 with magnetic drive from the same manufacturer, it has – only – four power levels, a special hot food program and a crushed ice function.

Convenience of use

Compact, covered with cast metal, the engine block of the KitchenAid Diamond 5KSB1585 is heavy (4.5 kg) and exudes solidity. The control panel is reminiscent of that of the Riviera & Bar PR384A  : molded in one piece in a plastic very pleasant to the touch, the buttons are integral with the rest and there are therefore no gaps.

Under the device, we find non-slip feet that serve their purpose well, as well as a cord organizer, however quite impractical. It is necessary to force to jam the wire and the latter does not go around the foot of the device. You almost have to bend the cord to make it turn around, put it back in the notches to return to the starting point and have a tidy electrical wire.

The bowl of the KitchenAid Diamond 5KSB1585 seems of lower quality than the rest of the device. It is made of plastic and placing or removing it from the engine block is more difficult than on the Kenwood Blend-X Pro BLM800WH , since it takes a little bit of effort to unclip it. The knife does not come apart and the latter is also quite pale in appearance compared to that of the Electrolux ESB9300 Masterpiece Collection ,for example.

The four blades with which it is fitted are identical, so there is no notched blade. The container is closed with a flexible lid, a very interesting idea: it is very easy to place and remove. However, care must be taken to seal it, otherwise the preparation will escape. The hole used to introduce ingredients during mixing closes by clipping on the dosing cap.

Mixing efficiency

The KitchenAid Diamond 5KSB1585 is unassailable when it comes to mixing.

The “crushed ice” program lasts 30 seconds on this model. In fact, it did not take more than 20 seconds for the fourteen ice cubes (300 grams) to be fully crushed. Be careful to close the lid and the cap, the ice cubes being literally ejected from the blades with each impulse.

The smoothie we made with the KitchenAid Diamond 5KSB1585 was delicious. Everything has been perfectly mixed: there are no more pieces of ice or pieces of fruit. Better, the skin of the apple that we do not remove to judge the quality of the mix is no longer noticeable, giving way to a smooth and particularly pleasant texture.

Noise

The KitchenAid Artisan 5KSB5080 made a very bad impression on us with a noise level of 90 dB at full power. The Diamond 5KSB1585 from the same manufacturer is more discreet with 83 dB. But it remains one of the loudest in our comparison. At 300 watts (the power closest to the 250 watts that we chose as reference power in order to be able to compare the sound levels), we measured 79 dB; an average performance of what other blender models offer.

Interview

This is the big downside of the KitchenAid Diamond 5KSB1585. The blades do not remove, maintenance is therefore more complicated than on a model like the  Philips HR2195 / 00 Silence  in the bowl completely removable. It is always possible to clean it with mixed water and dishwashing liquid thanks to the pulse function . However, the bowl, the lid and the cap are difficult to wipe. All these elements are certainly dishwasher safe … you still need to have one.

CONCLUSION

The KitchenAid Diamond 5KSB1585 is an accessible blender (perhaps too much for those accustomed to this type of appliance), very efficient and whose flexible cover is a good surprise. It’s a shame that its plastic bowl, which cannot be dismantled and is therefore difficult to maintain, tarnishes the painting.
