Best Vitamix Total Nutrition Center Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals & Sales 2020:
The Total Nutrition Center 5200 is the first blender from the American brand Vitamix to pass the door of our test laboratory. However, at the end of the tests, this eagerly awaited model still left us skeptical on several points.
The Vitamix Total Nutrition Center 5200 is part of the caste of friction blenders, these devices that heat food thanks to the action of blades that rotate at high speed and thus do without resistance. This model launched at € 649 develops 1,200 watts of power; this excessive power should allow it to pass our tests without a shot. However, the results obtained do not live up to the hopes raised by its impressive technical data sheet.

Convenience of use
When you unpack the Vitamix Total Nutrition Center 5200 and put it on the work surface, this beautiful baby weighing 5.39 kg (4.31 kg for the engine block and 1.08 kg for the container) immediately releases a impression of seriousness and solidity despite the glossy black plastic – therefore sensitive to fingerprints – with which it is covered. For its part, the control panel is coated with matt black plastic and it simply consists of a scroll wheel flanked by two switches, no frills, diode or other digital screen.
Under the engine block of the device, there is a very practical cord organizer which allows to hide 2 meters of cable and four non-slip rubber feet, sufficient to keep the blender in place, even at full power.
The bowl also plays the card of simplicity with all the same some peculiarities, foremost among which a unique lid closure system. Indeed, instead of adopting a joint system (as is the case with the Kenwood Blend-X Classic BLP610WH among others), the closure is guaranteed by two claws, located on either side of the cover. This makes removal difficult since it is necessary to handle one of the two fins, too small to be used easily, while firmly holding the container.
Good point, however, no need to clip or screw the bowl on the engine block. The base being square, the bowl can be simply placed in any position (front handle, on the side …).
Getting started with the Vitamix Total Nutrition Center 5200 can sometimes be surprising. Indeed, the left switch engages a fast mode or a variable mode. The fast mode is similar to the pulse function , even if it is useless to hold the button to deliver the maximum power; it remains in place.
The Vitamix Total Nutrition Center 5200 has no difficulty crushing ice. After ten short strokes at full power, all of the 300 grams of ice was sprayed.
Surprisingly, after a minute of mixing, increasing the speed gradually, there was still a huge piece of apple in the smoothie that we prepared. Accident on the course? Transgenic apple? The fact remains that less expensive blenders have fared much better. In addition, we can still clearly feel the bits of apple skin that we do not peel to judge the quality of the mix.
The bowl does not come apart (the blades cannot be removed) and the user manual recommends not to put it in the dishwasher, but to use the soapy water method. The manufacturer indeed recommends washing the bowl by pouring water and washing-up liquid into it and then rotating the blades at maximum speed.
However, manual cleaning is facilitated by the wide opening of the container.
For such a powerful blender, the Vitamix Total Nutrition Center 5200 is surprisingly discreet. The noise level reaches 68 dB at 250 watts of power and only 78 dB when the blades rotate at maximum speed.
The Vitamix Total Nutrition Center 5200 disappointed us. Despite an important power, the smoothie is not perfectly mixed nor very smooth. And if we can forgive a particular lid closure system, effective certainly, but impractical, difficult to overlook the lack of security of this blender. Too bad, because the extended power range allows very precise use of the device.
