Best Panasonic Lumix FZ300 Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals & Sales 2020:
Bridges with constant f / 2.8 aperture are rare, far too rare. Apart from the Sony RX10 / RX10 II and Olympus Stylus 1 / Stylus 1s, respectively with 1 “4x zoom sensor and 1 / 1.7” 10.7x zoom sensor, there was hardly anything but the Panasonic Lumix FZ200 for those who were looking for both high amplitude (24x) and f / 2.8 aperture. But that was before the Lumix FZ300 finally pointed the tip of its lens. The basic formula does not change, but the newcomer brings 4K video, 4K photo, 5-axis stabilization and tropicalization. What transform a bridge already popular in universal APN?
Presentation
24x 25-600mm f / 2.8 zoom, 12 Mpx 1 / 2.3 “BSI CMOS sensor, 5-axis stabilization, tropicalization, new processor, DFD autofocus inherited from the Lumix GH4, 4K video and photo, adjustable and touch screen, wide viewfinder OLED, Wi-Fi, numerous customization possibilities … the Lumix FZ300 concentrates, in a very angular chassis, a hair larger than that of its predecessor, all the technologies recently developed by Panasonic, setting the bar very high for all the others bridges.

Reactivity
With high amplitude zooms, especially when the brightness implies a certain heaviness of the lenses, there are always some doubts about the reactivity. Fortunately, and with no real surprises, Panasonic and its DFD technology sweep away any concerns you may have.
The Lumix FZ200 is dominated from the head and shoulders. Note the beautiful ignition time which flirts with the second; a great performance from the FZ300. For the rest, even if the FZ200 was far from complaining and still rivals the best recent bridges, it is largely dominated in all the situations that we take into consideration, since the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 is almost systematically twice as lively. The best progression being for focusing and triggering at wide-angle which is almost instantaneous. Except in low light, the FZ300 also systematically does better than the Olympus Stylus 1s , even when turned on, despite the amplitude two and a half times its zoom.
On the burst side, the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 is just as impressive. In JPG, with LiveView (LVL and LVM modes), recording is done ad infinitum, or until the memory card … or the battery is filled … or the photographer is abandoned. At 6 frames per second in LV M, we threw in the towel after 1000 frames after holding the shutter button down for three minutes. A scenario that is unlikely to happen to you in real conditions. In JPG H and JPG SH, the rates are respectively 10 fps and 64 fps, on 60 successive views. In RAW + JPG, on the other hand, the Lumix FZ300 is a little less flamboyant but everything remains relative: in LVL 2 i / s on 30 views, in LVMM 5.8 i / s on 21 views and in H 11.1 i / s on 18 “only” views.
Image quality
With its expert hybrid Lumix GX8 , Panasonic has shown a nice progression in terms of definition, going from 16 Mpx to 20.3 Mpx and thus closing the gap which existed between micro 4/3 boxes and their APS counterparts- C or more. With regard to fixed-lens digital cameras (compact, expert and bridge) on the other hand, Osaka is much more measured and has even been performing back-pedaling since last year.
The Lumix LX100 expert must therefore be content with 12 Mpx despite its 4/3 “sensor, when the Lumix TZ70 superzoomreturns to 12.1 Mpx against 18 Mpx for the TZ60. Well, they have a thing with the 12 MP, since it is exactly the definition of the BSI CMOS sensor 1 / 2.3 “of the Panasonic Lumix FZ300, which therefore maintains the status quo compared to the FZ200. Similarly for the lens, which is the same 25-600mm f / 2.8 as before. The processor is however brand new and now allows a maximum sensitivity of 6,400 ISO (against 3,200 ISO).
Between the two generations, the gain is subtle, but very present. In JPG, it is mainly the solid colors which benefit from the most visible improvements, with much less background noise and grain which, on the FZ300, only appears clearly from ISO 800. Impossible to strictly compare the color rendering, since between the two boxes the lighting in the laboratory has changed, but it nevertheless seems to us that the FZ200 drew more towards cyan and magenta. On the side of finesse, if 12 MP on such a small sensor can not work miracles, the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 nevertheless clearly takes the upper hand over its predecessor.
Video
If there is one appreciable thing with Panasonic digital cameras filming in 4K, it is that they do not impose the use of SDXC memory cards to benefit from 4K via an “original” format – hello to XAVC- Sony’s. With the Lumix FZ300, a simple SDHC in UHS-I – it does not support UHS-II but can read UHS-II cards – is enough, as long as it is fast enough. You will therefore film either in AVCHD Full HD (50p, 50i, 25p, 24p) or in MP4 Full HD (50p, 25p) and of course in MP4 4K (25p or 24p, both at 100 Mb / s). Note that only recording in 4K allows, in video, to benefit from the maximum wide-angle, recording in Full HD also cropping. Only PAL is available and not NTSC. Also note that, in our region, the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 is subject to the limitation of
Unsurprisingly, the image quality is very good, as is the sound; too bad there is no headphone jack. The 5-axis stabilization works miracles and avoids jerks, even during strong zooms when filming. Depending on the PASM mode selected, it is possible to change the speed, aperture, sensitivity, exposure compensation, while filming. It is also possible to switch, on the fly, to manual focus, with focus peaking and zebras. However, it is not possible to take a photo during video recording.
