Best Polar M200 Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals & Sales 2020:

Polar returns to its favorite playground, that of the sports watch. With its M200, the Finnish manufacturer offers a touching accessible activity sensor, along with a GPS and a cardio sensor. What does our test say at the finish line?

Presentation

Pending the manufacturer’s announcements at the 2017 Salon du Running (Porte des Expositions in Paris, April 7), the Polar sports watch range is expanding with the M200. Launched at € 149.90, this tocante in sneakers serves as a product of appeal to the Finnish manufacturer. It finds its place before the M400 and M600 and seems to replace the A300 which has disappeared from radar on the manufacturer’s site . Wanting to be complete, with – as the current standard wants – a heart rate sensor and an on-board GPS, it also acts as an activity tracker . Can we jointly wear it daily and use it for our training? For what results? This is what we wanted to know through our test.

Characteristics

Round, with a comfortable non-touch screen 26 mm in diameter (1342 pixels), the Polar M200 reverts to a more classic form after the elders a little freestyle design side. Thick, probably too much (12 mm), it remains quite light (40 g). Its very plastic construction is not for nothing

Incorporating a GPS chip and a heart rate sensor, the M200 unpacks the a priori complete panoply of basic functions for this type of product. At this price, its direct competitor Garmin does not reference any watch: you have to bet € 199 to afford the Forunner 35.

The contours of the M200 reveal two buttons. On the right, the first allows you to select the desired function: Training; Activity (the percentage achieved in relation to the objective set); History; Heart rate and Settings. The choice is validated by selecting the function, then pressing the button for a long time. On the left, the second button is used to activate the screen backlight or to return to the home screen. As such, the M200 is particularly easy to use and can be recommended for beginners and boeotians who wish to acquire a first sports watch.

In addition to its sporting functions, the M200 acts as an activity sensor. Note that, as usual with Polar, it offers an achievable activity objective according to the profile of our typical days recorded in the application (Low intensity; Medium intensity; High intensity). It is ultimately a good option that allows you to always stay motivated, even if you are not a great sportsman; in use, it should be noted however that the objective defined by the M200 is relatively simple to achieve.

Functions and training

Distance traveled, number of steps taken, calories burned, activity time, percentage of activity achieved compared to the set target and sleep time – including restful sleep time – are evaluated: the Polar M200 has nothing to do envy the classic activity sensors. Appreciable: points appear on the circumference of the screen as one progresses in activity during the day. The turn of the filled dial is the assurance that we have fulfilled our health mission!

Running, cycling, indoor or outdoor sport, it is possible to select the desired discipline or its type with a few presses on the right button of the watch so that it is quantified. Polar does not go very far in the choices offered, but the main thing is if you simply want to motivate yourself a bit and follow its progress as you go out and train. Once again, simplicity prevails, as if to manage its intervals (or turns) between point A and point B. Duration, distance, average heart rate, maximum heart rate, average speed, maximum speed, calories spent are automatically recorded. We appreciate the speed with which the M200 receives satellites for its GPS to be operational.fix GPS before performing a running trip!

Faced with these very honorable services, we regret the poor quality of the screen and its backlight. This is done by two LEDs located on the right of the screen. Their light, a little too visible on the right side of the watch, as revealed in the photo above, struggles to reach the opposite side! Hence a readability which is not optimal.

The M200 ensures on paper up to 6 days of autonomy and one day of autonomy with active GPS. Checked, the promise is indeed kept within a few hours.

Interface

No surprise, Polar’s dual mobile / web system hasn’t changed since our test of the M600 in October 2016 – which will teach you the basics. Fairly limited, the Polar Flow application remains clear in its approach with a summary of the user’s daily activity in the form of a particularly precise pie chart.

A color system instantly identifies areas of more or less intense activity. Going up the screen shows the detailed figures for each day. The user’s sleep analysis is intended to be quite fine: Sleep time, restorative sleep (and its percentage compared to the night spent sleeping) and restless sleep time are measured.

For its part, the Polar Flow web platform is even more explicit and provides access to more details, including graphs (bar or line), an inventory of the best recorded days, but also comments on our daily activity. (subject to wearing the M200 for at least 21 days for more than 10 hours a day!). These are veritable reports, the most athletic of which will certainly have constant use. It is even possible to share on Facebook.

CONCLUSION

The Polar M200 is an entry-level sports watch with cardio sensor, with an engaging price / quality ratio. A little prominent on the wrist, with very typical “sport” bracelets, she would benefit from making a small diet and expanding her range of bracelets with more elegant models so as never to leave us. Also an activity sensor, it turns out to be very easy to use and a reassuring approach for Boeotians. It can undoubtedly be advised, but primarily for beginners who want to monitor their physical condition more closely.
