Best Ecovacs Deebot R95MKII Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals & Sales 2020:
By simply reading its technical sheet, the Deebot R95MKII from Ecovacs looks promising. Equipped with a laser rangefinder, the robot vacuum cleaner scans the environment and draws up a detailed map in real time.
Presentation
The Deebot R95MKII constitutes the middle of the range within the Ecovacs catalog. Launched at a price of € 549, this robot vacuum cleaner has many arguments to convince. Not only is it able to map and provide a detailed map of the environment in which it is located, but also to be controlled through the appropriate application which provides many options. In addition, this Deebot uses the ” Smart Navi ” technology dear to the manufacturer, which is supposed to program an individualized cleaning trajectory and ” optimal for maximum efficiency “. Versatile, the Deebot R95MKII also has a mini mop to erase the most stubborn traces of dust.

Convenience of use
In its perfectly round shape, the Ecovacs Deebot R95MKII looks like any iRobot robot. It is enhanced by a laser rangefinder – as is also the case with the Xiaomi Roborock S50 – and reaches an overall height of 10.2 cm. This thickness could, unfortunately, prevent it from cleaning under certain furniture.
The Deebot R95MKII displays a rather neat design, with colors close to those of the Neato D7 Botvac Connected , except that here, the entire hull is plastic. The finishes are of quality, we do not feel any play when handling the robot and its design inspires confidence: the Deebot R95MKII looks great.
On the upper part of the robot, only one physical key appears: “Auto”. It launches the robot or returns it to its base. All other functions are accessible from the application, as we will see below. No other key therefore, but LEDs which inform the user about the status and activity of the robot: Wi-Fi connection, programming, localized cleaning and finally return to base. We regret that no led gives any visual indication on the state of the battery of the vacuum cleaner. But it is of less importance insofar as the robot works in autonomy and returns to charge automatically when it needs it.
Connectivity and the Ecovacs application
The configuration of the device to the Wi-Fi network is not necessarily very obvious. We had to do it three times before we managed to connect it to the network. The application, if it gives precise information on the steps to perform, omits to remind the user to replace the robot on its charging base to finalize the configuration. Without this, do not expect to be able to pair the robot to the home network.
The Ecovacs application incorporates classic but still popular features, such as weekly programming, remote launching of the device or even access to cards produced by the robot. Thanks to its laser rangefinder, the Deebot R95MKII maps in real time and the user can observe the evolution of the robot during the cleaning cycle. After each pass, the application provides a fairly precise map of the environment in which the robot has circulated and if desired, the user can then install virtual beacons to limit access to the robot in certain places. Note that it is impossible to install virtual tags during the cleaning cycle
The maps provided by the robot are very precise. The Ecovacs Deebot R95MKII easily detects corners and obstacles. Since it learns with each pass, the maps become more precise, more detailed and improve over the cycles. Good point.
The application ignores directional keys that would allow you to control the robot vacuum cleaner as you would with a remote-controlled car. In addition, it is not possible to activate additional cleaning modes. Only a “continuous cleaning function” authorizes this Deebot to return to the charging station when the battery is empty and to automatically resume its suction cycle.
Interview
On this model, Ecovacs made maintenance easier. As for the central rotating brush, it is no longer screwed either, unlike that of the Deepoo D68. But it is simply clipped and easily dislodged.
The collector, with a capacity of 0.5 l, is easily accessible by lifting the cover on the upper part. It is decorated with a small handle which ensures a better grip. The mouth of the collector is preceded by a filter which is easily dislodged. Behind this filter, there is another filter in the form of a small grid intended to retain lint and thick dust. By pulling this part, the user can finally empty the collector.
Navigation system
The Ecovacs Deebot R95MKII’s navigation system gave us a lot of trouble. Sometimes it seemed methodical, sometimes random. See instead in the video below.
If he is able to perform a zigzag trajectory, this Deebot has completely abandoned certain areas. Note that it has never passed under the coffee table when its height allows it largely. The corners and along the baseboards also resist it. Not only does the Deebot pass several times in the same place, but in addition it voluntarily confronts what stands in its way – in all delicacy certainly, without jeopardizing the furniture, but it is however astonishing to see it go tickle the obstacles.
The electric wires are undoubtedly its worst enemies and the robot vacuum cleaner will not fail to send alerts. In addition, despite the presence of sensors supposed to protect against falls, the Deebot R95MKII fell from a step on a staircase; there again, it warns its user by means of a notification. Trapped under a table and 16 feet of chairs, he could not get out of this Machiavellian labyrinth and, there either, did not fail to report it. You will understand, the Deebot requires a lot of assistance – during our autonomy test, we were forced to come to its rescue 4 times in total. Obstacle management is not necessarily well mastered. Too bad and surprising: we expected more from a robot vacuum cleaner with a range finder.
Aspiration
Before revealing our results that we have strengthened our test protocol on the suction part.
Under these now highly regulated conditions, the Ecovacs Deebot R95MKII managed to recover 68% of the waste on the ground in 3 min, 73% in 6 min and 79% in 9 min. Very disappointing results, where the Neato D7 sucked 81% of the materials in 3 min and all in 6 min.
On fine carpet, the results are almost identical: it collects 69% of the waste in 3 min, 70% in 6 min and 71% in 9 min. Yes, yes, you read that right. It is precisely because of its semi-random and semi-methodical navigation system that the robot vacuum cleaner did not manage to provide better services within the time allowed.
On thick carpet, the results are quite deplorable: 37.1% in 3 min, 42.1% in 6 min and finally 43.1% of the materials vacuumed in 9 min.
However, if the results within the time limit do not meet our expectations, it should be noted that almost all waste sprayed on hard ground and good carpets has actually been recovered, but exceeded. Terminology is specified by our testing protocol.
Noise
The Ecovacs Deebot R95MKII is not very noisy. Its measured sound level oscillates between 55 dB (A) and 60 dB (A): not enough to cover a conversation, whose noise level is estimated at around 60 dB (A). Remember that the Samsung Navibot Corner Clean emits between 56 and 58 dB (A).
Autonomy
The manufacturer estimates the autonomy in 1 hour 30 minutes. For our part, we observed that the Deebot R95MKII would run out of steam after 1 h 10 min. This remains correct and appreciable for covering large areas.
CONCLUSION
The Ecovacs Deebot R95MKII has some good ideas but that is not enough for it to shine. Behind quality finishes, a precise and interactive mapping function as well as a certain versatility hide too many inconsistencies. Starting with a hazardous navigation system and erratic suction performance. However, this robot ends up sucking properly, provided it gives it a lot of time.
