The ICM 15750 filter coffee maker invites itself into the mid-range segment of the Delonghi catalog. Relatively complete, its technical sheet suggests a simple and functional use.

Presentation

Marketed at around € 60, the Delonghi ICM 15750 offers above all simplicity and comfort of use. Nothing seems to be missing in this filter coffee maker which provides an insulated carafe to keep the coffee warm for 4 hours as well as a Set Timer function to program the preparation of the beverage. Equipped with a water tank with a capacity of 10 cups, it is also provided with an Aroma function which dispenses 2 levels of brewing speed to vary the intensity of the coffee.

Convenience of use

The design of the Delonghi ICM 15750 leaves us somewhat perplexed. Just as the brushed stainless steel parts – covering the filter holder and the carafe – flatter the retina, the glossy black plastic parts also give it some credibility. Despite the visual aspect which is a bit of a dinette, the materials used are of good quality and inspire confidence.

Unlike the Severin KA 4312 and its false looks of a nuclear power plant, the dimensions of the Delonghi ICM 15750 are relatively compact and allow it to easily find its place, even in the most cramped kitchens.

Without a grain grinder, this filter coffee maker nevertheless has the merit of having a swivel and removable filter holder. Unfortunately, and unlike the Moulinex Subito Mug , our test version is supplied without a permanent filter which would dispense with a paper filter and that’s a shame.

Its water tank (1.25 l) allows it to prepare 10 large or 15 small cups. Perfectly graduated, it allows the user to easily locate the water level. Filling is possible by two inputs: the first is relegated to the top of the device when the second appears at the filter holder. The latter seems less easy to access.

The Delonghi ICM 15750’s LCD screen does more than just display the time. It is also used to program the preparation of a coffee via the Set Timer function. Simply press and hold the dedicated button for the hours and minutes to start scrolling. The device switches on automatically at the programmed time. This feature is quite comfortable since it allows you not to wait for the coffee to run out when you are pressed in the morning.

Easy maintenance

Thanks to its swivel and removable filter holder, the coffee maker is fairly easy to clean. The carafe opening is large enough to insert your hand or a sponge inside.

All plastic elements can be washed in the dishwasher, although it is better to prefer hand washing to ensure the durability of the elements.

The anti-drip system is supposed to keep the appliance clean when the jug is removed from its location. To check the suitability of this device, we removed the carafe during preparation. And on this point, we are a little disappointed. Like the Tefal Express Timer , the machine lets out a few drops which evaporate directly as soon as they fall on the pan. Fortunately, it is covered with black plastic, which somewhat reduces the traces of coffee. After extraction, however, no drop escapes from the outlet nozzle.

We note the absence of an indicator light to warn that it is time to perform a descaling. The user must therefore scrupulously monitor the condition of his coffee maker to launch this operation at the appropriate time.

Coffee temperature

The brewing temperature must be between 92 ° C and 96 ° C, otherwise it will have a direct effect on the taste of the coffee. To carry out our measurements, we place our thermal probes directly in the filter holder during the infusion.

And on this criterion, the temperatures recorded on the Delonghi ICM 15750 are not up to our expectations. We noted a temperature varying between 80.2 ° C and 88.5 ° C. We are therefore far too far from the recommended temperatures for a perfect extraction of all the aromas of coffee.

As for the temperatures in the jug, they must be between 80 ° C and 85 ° C for tasting to take place between 60 ° C and 65 ° C. Here, we are just within the limit of what we could hope for, with a result of 80.6 ° C noted in the jug immediately after the flow. Five minutes after preparation, the temperature in the carafe rises to 80.1 ° C, to 79 ° C after 15 min and 77.9 ° C after 30 min. Based on this observation, we cannot expect the insulated carafe to keep the coffee at the right temperature after 4 hours.

Consumption

We record the electrical consumption after preparing 1 liter of coffee and after keeping it warm (variable duration). European legislation imposes a maximum warming time of 5 minutes for machines with an insulated jug. Note that this Delonghi does not have such a function. This is why it displays a very measured consumption of 0.098 kWh (without keeping warm), which generates an annual cost of electricity of 5.37 € at the rate of 7 coffees (1 l) per week.

CONCLUSION

With the ICM 15750, Delonghi promises a simple and efficient coffee maker. If simplicity is essential, efficiency leaves something to be desired and yet the machine is full of options. Its rating is impacted by the temperatures recorded which are far too below ideal temperatures for the preparation and consumption of coffee. We nevertheless welcome the very contained electricity consumption.
