Best Nikon D5600 Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals & Sales 2020:

Light and compact, offering everything that a family photographer can expect, the D5600 retains its rank as an excellent all-around DSLR in its price category.

The Nikon D5600 is a minimal update to the excellent D5500 . The bare body costs 679 euros, but it can be found with different combinations of lenses including an 18-55mm and / or an AF-P DX 70-300mm. In addition to the camera itself, Nikon has also updated its Android and iOS mobile app SnapBridge which significantly improves stability and performance.

For a DSLR with an APS-C size sensor, the D5600 is the most complete option. Its photo quality is higher than that of a Canon EOS 800D . The Pentax K-70 is probably its most threatening rival, but the brand is unfortunately losing momentum and potentially in danger. Suddenly, the closest opponent is the Sony A6300.

A slight improvement over the D5500

Although there has been no significant change from the D5500, the 5600 brings some small improvements in terms of speed and image quality. We can probably attribute it to the firmware update that occurs with the release of each new model.

The video is as good and the autofocus in Live View is smoother than before. But Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS sensor is even more fluid and precise in this exercise.

The autofocus of the 5600 in single photo is in progress compared to that of the D5500 and very good for its category in burst mode. In practice, autofocus tracking is not very reliable except to limit the number of zones to 9 or 21, which will cover most action scenes. It may happen that the speed of the burst mode lose regularity if the movement is too complex to manage for autofocus or automatic exposure. This is a fairly common phenomenon on entry-level devices. If you want something more reliable and faster, you’ll need to spend a little more on a D7200.

Design: good but some annoying details

The arrangement of the housing is designed for people who do not want to change the settings often. This was already the case for previous models and also for competitors. Unless you use the programmable button, the only way to access the basic settings (white balance, ISO, etc.) is to go through the rear screen.

The functionalities have hardly evolved, but they cover most of the needs with in particular filters, a silent shutter and an orientable and pivotable screen.

Due to the reduced size of the case, the handle is small, which can interfere with large hands. Another annoying detail, the multidirectional navigation button which lacks relief and forces you to focus so as not to press in the wrong direction.

Finally, the HDR and self-timer settings are disabled after each shot, which can annoy those who use them frequently.
